Merilyn Spratling, Refugee Health Nurse Practitioner with EACH in Victoria, and executive member of Refugee Nurses of Australia was last week awarded the Individual Award at Melbourne’s Communities’ Council on Ethnic Issues Multicultural Awards. Merilyn helped to establish the EACH Refugee Health service in Melbourne’s eastern region in 2009 and has been providing care for refugees and people seeking asylum in that region for over 10 years. Sonja Terpstra MLC who presented Merilyn with her award took the opportunity to acknowledge Merilyn’s service especially in addressing the challenges faced by refugee background communities in Melbourne during the COVID19 pandemic this year, which saw Merilyn and her team providing mobile testing to communities.
